ASUNRA, an iron-chelating drug, is prescribed to treat blood transfusion related iron overload and non-transfusion thalassemia related iron overload. The drug binds with the circulating iron molecules and eliminates the chelated iron via the feces. The USFDA approved the drug in adults and children who are at least 2 years old.
