Capegard-500 containing the active ingredient capecitabine is considered an antimetabolites anti-cancer type of medication. The medication works by interfering with cancer cells and slowing or stopping cancer cell growth and decrease tumor size. It is usually used with other medications or other types of cancer therapy (chemotherapy, radiation therapy) in the treatment of certain types of cancer such as breast cancer, stomach cancer, colon cancer and cancer of the large bowel and rectum.
